Fender Eliminator

Thought I'd try a different fender eliminator on my 2008 bike. I've been running the OEM fender trimmed down on the 2008 bike so that I can slap the hard bag brackets on it without having to rig anything. I got tired of looking at it and I haven't used the hard bags in a couple years, so I thought I'd see what I could find that's cheap. What I chose is all over eBay for about $20. Make an offer and you will likely get it cheaper. Amazon has them but they are a lot more expensive there.

If you've removed your OEM fender, you know there are three pairs of bolts/holes. One pair for the heavy bracket, and two pair for the larger plastic portion. The ones farthest forward were not useable. That left the heavy bracket pair and the farthest rear pair, both of which I played around with. I ended up going with the heavy bracket pair. I made up some temporary PVC spacers to test fit everything. I ended up painting them black and putting them back into use for the time being until I make some proper metal spacers.
The end result is a little disappointing. The whole underside is visible and doesn't look all that good to me. If the underside was a little more polished like the modern sportbikes, it would look better. The bracket hangs down a little, so I'm curious if it will rub the tire at full shock deflection. I will leave the thing on for a while, but I may end up taking this one off and make one out of aluminum angle where I can tuck the plate up high between the cans.
Photo 1 shows where I bolted it up and the PVC spacers. You can see the rearmost bolts protruding above the plate. I could have mounted it there as well. Scrap PVC and just some old rusty bolts were used for mockup.
Photo 2 shows the finished product with blacked out PVC spacers. If I decide to keep it on the bike, I will make some permanent spacers for it.
