93 Syndrome

Ever notice before 93 became a thing, race coverage would focus on battles between a pair of riders regardless if they were up front or fighting for 10th? The lead rider would be ignored for more action farther back until things calmed down and then they would show the lead rider again. It still takes place everywhere except Motogp.

I finally got to watch last week's Czechia MotoGP race and the cameras spent 90%...make that 93% of the time on Marquez' bike while he was running a lonely 2nd with neither Bagnia in 1st nor Ogura in 3rd anywhere near him. Meanwhile there were battles going on just a little farther back. Even if there were no interesting battles or crashes you should expect, just out of courtesy, to show the lead rider at least 63% of the time until something interesting starts happening.

I haven't noticed that, but I have noticed that I haven't been paying attention to MotoGP or WSB much over the last few years.

I used to watch (live or recorded) every race, every class, and often the practice sessions and qualifying (which was pretty easy to do in Europe, with no special subscriptions required). I'm not even sure why I've lost interest! It's not like the racing is so much worse--it's okay, I guess. Yes, I miss the old personalities (having started watching motorcycle racing in the late 1980s), but the "new" guys aren't that much different, are they?

Marc is not my favorite MotoGP racer (by far), but you can't blame him if some TV sports directors (is it still owned by Dorna?) have decided to focus on him exclusively for unknown reasons. He is (was) a fairly dramatic racer, at least. A pass on him very rarely went unanswered...

Probably some stoopid sponsorship deal where they were required to showcase important people 93% of time. Boring...
I like watching MotoAmerica much more.
