I took some time to let it all sink in that most of the work I did to this bike was changed by one woman.
Last Friday I rode over to a garage to get the bike inspected for license registration. On the way home this happened.
Yup, a woman decided she didn't need to stop at the stop sign when I did not have one to stop at.
I could not stop in time and I low sided the bike into the car. I did not want to fly over that car. The bike slid one way and I slid the other way. Everything that was plastic or glass on the front end of the bike turned to small pieces. My heart is broken, but I will rebuild.
I can see this happening if I was playing around or going too fast. I was going about 35 to 40 mph and in 3rd gear. For the 2nd winter of having this bike I will be working on her to get her ready for next riding season.
I could use all the help I can get for parts that are getting hard to find these days. Yes, Ebay is going to be the site I'm on alot. Man, is the shipping expensive from the UK.
VFR down!!

I am so sorry. Glad you are OK.
Is that where you sat waiting for the police and a trailer?

Could have been worse.
Not for the bike, but for you!
That bike is dead.
Buy another one with the payout--nothing else makes sense, financially.
Ciao,

I hope you can agree a max value figure for your accident to enable you to get straight on another model. Hopefully your lawyer will be able to advise. A secondhand VFR is going to range in value depending on the market and opinion. But loss of function/ utility or just having it available needs pricing in as well as any damage to your riding kit, any loss of earnings if the bike was a primary mode of transport, whatever emotional attachment from work and effort to make the bike yours (but careful about any legally questionable modifications), Assuming the tyres were new and you'd have to buy another new set. Etc, etc
Good luck

If you have any good aftermarket parts on it like speedo-healers, an undamaged pipe, luggage mounts, phone mounts, etc. , swap back to OEM status before it gets taken away by the insurance company. Nearly every company and policy will only pay based on OEM parts. However, you may have a policy that will pay for new riding gear.

I understand what everyone is telling me finacially it makes sense to let the bike go to the junk yard. I'm not convinced that is the best path for me to take. The cost of repairing the bike will be mitigated by me doing all the labor myself. Besides its a labor of love for riding bikes. I would hate to let another bike go to the junk yard to be broken apart or scraped.
I need to wait and see what the lawyers come back with and what the insurance is willing to do for me. I'm sure there will be a long pause before anything gets sorted out. This will be a battle between the insurance companies and my lawyers.
As far as aftermarket parts, I had a lot on it. Helibars, gear indicator, heated grips, volatge monitor with charging port, cruise control (bar end), Thunder box, rectifier, power commander, Yosh exhaust was refurbished back to new, Custom corbin seat, New paint and stickers, I did coil over plugs, pair delete. PPF the main fairings, and Tail bag with mount.
At this point I haven't made up my mind on what to do. There are options out there, but I'm not quick on saying its dead throw it away. Part of me says nothing is really dead as long as you willing to put the work into it.
Besides this forum is made up of bikes being saved. I just makes for great reading material and I have another winter project.
I welcome all the comments and help with this matter. I enjoy listening to everyones views on it.
