Drain killed the battery, but battery has reserve to get me going.

Hope everyone’s day is going well.
I recently bought one of these lithium LiFePO4 batteries for my VFR. It has been working perfectly every time I hit that start button.
This morning was different. I hit the button and nothing happened. Hmmm, what the heck! After further inspection the whole bike was turned off or the battery ran dead. I pulled the seat off, hit the button on the battery to wake it up and all the lights on the battery woke up. I went back and turned the key on and still nothing. I went into the app on my phone and hit emergency start and the bike turned on and it started right up. That is just a testament as to how well these batteries work when there is a drain on the battery. They shut down the drain and have enough to start the bike to get you on your way.
I will figure out my drain later, but for now I will leave it on the charger at night.

I am somewhat looking for a new LiFePO4 battery...let us know how yours goes with longer use.
- I have one that is 10 years old and cranks/works like it was new.. .dunno whether to replace it because of age or keep going.

As time goes on I'm thinking these batteries will get better with technology. Who ever heard of a motorcycle battery having its own BMS.
I would wait, but waiting might end up being its just dead and no warning. Just have a back up plan just in case.

I don’t know if you’re aware, but I’ll say it anyways. Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries are not good at handling parasitic draw like regular AGM batteries are. Usually, it’s not a problem for most motorcycles, however, the internal clock on the gauge of the 5th gen VFR is estimated to draw about 0.046 Wh per day. If you let the bike sit a while without starting it and riding it to charge up the battery (or keeping it on a lithium capable battery charger or simply disconnecting when not in use) you run the risk of draining the battery. The pros of lithium batteries over AGM is that they offer higher cranking power and watt hours relative to their size, have a lower discharge rate compared to AGM, and usually weigh a lot less. But they are not good for handling parasitic draw. If you insist on lithium for the VFR, I recommend getting one with a higher watt hours, like the Shorai LFM21A7-BS12, which has 92 watt hours. This will give you a lot more headroom to let the bike sit, but still not as good as AGM. This is all assuming nothing is wrong with your charging system like the RR and stator or any messed up wiring.

Agree with that, if you plan to let the bike sit for more than 3-4 weeks, disconnecting is a good idea.

I keep my bikes on a charger when they sit for any amount of time. That seems to help with the battery shutting off.
Your right, I'm sure that was the draw that made the battery shut off.
