The World's Fastest Indian

Post by rc24dk »

"The World's Fastest Indian" is a film portrait of Burt Munro https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burt_Munro and his bike.

Fascinating story about a man and his old bike and if you - as I do - like the acting of Anthony Hopkins it adds. This YT video gives a little supplementary info of the man, the bike and the film:

... so if you think that your 1st/2nd gen VFR (or yourself) is old ... ;)

Great film with Anthony Hopkins.

Saw the bike when we visited NZ 10 years ago.

Since 2006, the Southland Motorcycle club has held the Burt Munro Challenge in/around Invercargill which is a combination of hill climb, road race, beach race and dirt-track racing, in the old boy's honour. It has become a big draw for the local community, notably when they changed the date from November (when the weather in the area can be "challenging" all on its own, it's not far to the South Pole from there), to February (when even Southland is basked in warm weather). I attended on my ST1100 in 2018, riding the 3600km round trip over 8 days. As a spectator, mind, not to compete!
