Helibars

Post by tbzep »

Someone on VFRWorld asked if mods needed to be made for Helibars. VFRWorld is down right now, so I thought I'd put the info here in case the individual surfs over here while the other site is down.

I believe he was referring to a 5th gen, but afik, the only difference in the 5th and 6th gen clipons and hydraulic lines is the diameter of the fork tubes. All hoses and wires are OEM, so no mods needed there. The instructions for Helibars on both 5th and 6th gens say to saw off the tabs that index the banjo fittings on both master cylinders. I bought my 2007 with Helibars already installed. I didn't think anything had been done to it so I checked today and the tabs are both still on the masters. There are two on the clutch master and for some reason, one on the brake master. The hose does touch the top of the fork tube on the clutch side, but does not pose a problem. BTW, I did not butcher those bolt heads. I've never taken the banjos off.

My 7th Gen 1200F has Helibars too. No additional kit required unless you need new grips. I did cos my LH grip would not come off.

From memory you may have to cut one tab off the master on the 5th gen.
Just do it, time runs out.

Instructions say to do so on both 5th and 6th gen installs. My 6th gen does not have the tab cut, so I bet you can get away without cutting it on the 5th gen as well.
