Make your own storage Petroleum/gas

Post by maxredline »

Bare with me for those who do not know.

Its that time of year for those north or the 49th parralle. As of a couple of years ago you can not get Petroleum (gas) without ethanol in this area of the world. As most of you know ethanol attracts moisture (H20) not unlike most brake fluids (that should be changed periodically).
Moisture will find its was in to most closed systems as there are almost usually some sort of path of ingress. If you are running your bike or lawnmower there is no problem. The gas is getting cycled (used). The problem is that if the engine is sitting and the fuel is not being consumed. Moisture will cause fouling and-or corrosion in fuel tanks, carbs or any surface that is in contact with the ethanol fuel (fuel injection less so).

Most people with use a gas stabilizer additive to the fuel to keep it from fouling. You can look that up. I like to eliminate the ethonol from the gas before I add an additive.

It sounds counter intuitive but you mix water with the new high octane gas to bind the ethanol where is separates out. You then siphon the gas out leaving the cloudy mess behind to be desposed of at your recycling facility. Now you have old school gas that should be good for 6 months.
There are videos out there.

That seems smart. One (more) alternative is to use alkylate petrol/gas. It may not be available everywhere.
